With all eyes now focused on the 2012-13 season, I thought it was worth taking a look at what the odds makers think of our Chargers.  According to our friends at TopBet.com, the Chargers are +1500, which means if you bet $100 and the Chargers win it all, you would cash that ticket in for $1500.  No team in the AFC West has better odds than the Chargers.
  • Broncos +6000
  • Chiefs +5000
  • Raiders +5000.
In the AFC only the following teams are listed ahead of the Bolts.
  • Patriots +700
  • Steelers +1200
  • Ravens +1200
  • Texans +1200
Interesting to note, the Colts are +4000
The Super Bowl Champion Giants come in at +1200, trailing the Packers +500 and the Saints +600.   This is an odd time to predict a Super Bowl champ for 2013, but looking at these numbers, it wouldn’t hurt to take advantage of a soft line or two.

High Boltage Shieldbftb-xlChargers fans it is with great excitement that I announce High Boltage Radio is now part of Boltsfromtheblue.com (yes, I resisted saying…. coreyliugetWith the 18th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select Corey Liuget, defensive tackle from Illinois.

Liuget is a great defensive lineman who has the potential and strength to be a force in the middle of the Chargers’ defense. Although he’s more of a defensive tackle than a defensive end, the Chargers will most likely use him as a defensive end in their 3-4 defense. He’s got great size (6-3, 300) to go along with superb strength to bust through the line against the pass. Against the run, he is even more disruptive.

marcusgilchristWith the 50th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select Marcus Gilchrist, defensive back from Clemson.

With the skillset to play either safety or cornerback at the NFL level, Gilchrist gives the Chargers a versatile player who can provide depth at multiple positions in the defensive backfield. Despite his lack of size (5’10’’, 195), he plays with toughness and a relentless motor that allows him to be more physical than most guys with his frame. However, his aggressiveness sometimes gets him into trouble if he reacts to fakes. During his time at Clemson, he saw plenty of time on special teams, either as a cover man or as a returner. That experience should enable him to make an immediate impact somewhere on the field as he continues to develop his coverage skills.

  • Norv Turner: Antonio Gates is back to where we want him
It has been a rough couple of years for Chargers tight end Antonio Gates. He missed six games in 2010 and three games, along with parts of others, last year because of a foot injury. He’s still been productive — 17 touchdown catches — but his presence in the lineup has been missed for the…
  • Junior Seau’s restaurant closes
The San Diego restaurant that Junior Seau owned is going out of business. Trustees of Seau’s estate announced the decision to close Seau’s The Restaurant on Wednesday, two weeks after Seau committed suicide. The trustees said the restaurant’s ability to be profitable without Seau’s leadership was in question. Seau’s described itself as the largest sports…
  • Bike stolen from Seau’s home recovered
Last night, a disturbing report emerged that a burglary occurred at linebacker Junior Seau’s home only five days after he died there.  The good news, if there is any, is that police have recovered the $500 bike stolen from the garage. The bicycle, which belongs to a friend of Seau’s, was found in the possession…
  • Junior Seau’s home burglarized
Here’s a sad and pathetic footnote to the death of linebacker Junior Seau.  His house in Oceanside, California was burglarized last week, according to the North County Times. Police say that, on May 7, someone used the dog door to force entry through the garage door, rummaged through cabinets in the garage, and stole a…
  • The Chargers have signed all their draft picks
Cross another team off the list. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers have reached agreement on a four-year contract with strong safety Brandon Taylor. That makes them the fifth team in the league to sign all of their draft picks. The Chargers targeted Taylor and traded up with the Dolphins…
