2009 Season

Chris Chambers Released!

First off, as a person that has been laid off twice in the past two years I don't think anyone losing their job is a happy time.  In pro sports things are a little different and I'm sure Chambers will land on his feet before weeks end.  With that said...... Read More

ITS ABOUT FREAKIN TIME!

I know when Chambers arrived on the scene he was to fill the Keenan McCardell role and for the half season he did.  Then he turned into the guy that Miami was happy to deal away.  I always found it amazing how people felt that Chambers was doing just fine, but when presented with statistical data those same people were dumb founded.

I joke all of the time that Chris Chambers falls down upon hearing foot steps, but I don't think people would disagree with that statement this year.  This is a player with a 2.4 YAC!  This is a guy who catches the ball and goes down.  He will make a spectacular catch that will over shadow his chronic drop issues. Take a bite out of this....

The TRG is the amount of times a ball was thrown to a player.  Take a look at 2006, red flag?  In 2007 the same thing was happening.  Miami dealt hm and fleeced AJ for a 2nd round pick.  Chambers did play decent averaging 55.5 yards per game.  In 2008 though he clearly was not the player AJ thought he was giving a 2nd round pick for.  Chambers was a bust!  He started off hot in September by reeling in four TD's, but what people didn't take notice of is that he only had eight receptions.  He was dropping the ball, not going hard in routes and taking up space.

It really got under my skin in the off season when AJ Smith put Tomlinson through hell to work out his contract but he was going to keep a very unproductive ($4.55 Million) player in Chambers.  Let's also keep in mind that Chambers is the 4th or 5th option on the team.  A far cry from when he was the only offense that existed in Miami.  I can't say I'm happy about the timing of the release of Chris Chambers, I think it just shows that AJ Smith wasn't working at all this off season.

Good luck the Chambers I'm sure he will have a job by weeks end.  If he does make it through waivers I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Giants uniform next week.  Other teams I think could use Chambers are the Colts, 49ers, Texans and Ravens.  If he clears waivers I expect him to sign with a playoff caliber team.

GO CHARGERS!

Update:  Chris Chambers was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Cheifs.  The Chiefs will now take responsibility for the remaining 2.4 million remaining salary for the season.

  • Norv Turner: Antonio Gates is back to where we want him
It has been a rough couple of years for Chargers tight end Antonio Gates. He missed six games in 2010 and three games, along with parts of others, last year because of a foot injury. He’s still been productive — 17 touchdown catches — but his presence in the lineup has been missed for the…
  • Junior Seau’s restaurant closes
The San Diego restaurant that Junior Seau owned is going out of business. Trustees of Seau’s estate announced the decision to close Seau’s The Restaurant on Wednesday, two weeks after Seau committed suicide. The trustees said the restaurant’s ability to be profitable without Seau’s leadership was in question. Seau’s described itself as the largest sports…
  • Bike stolen from Seau’s home recovered
Last night, a disturbing report emerged that a burglary occurred at linebacker Junior Seau’s home only five days after he died there.  The good news, if there is any, is that police have recovered the $500 bike stolen from the garage. The bicycle, which belongs to a friend of Seau’s, was found in the possession…
  • Junior Seau’s home burglarized
Here’s a sad and pathetic footnote to the death of linebacker Junior Seau.  His house in Oceanside, California was burglarized last week, according to the North County Times. Police say that, on May 7, someone used the dog door to force entry through the garage door, rummaged through cabinets in the garage, and stole a…
  • The Chargers have signed all their draft picks
Cross another team off the list. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers have reached agreement on a four-year contract with strong safety Brandon Taylor. That makes them the fifth team in the league to sign all of their draft picks. The Chargers targeted Taylor and traded up with the Dolphins…
