Chargers Previews

Relient Though the season is only half over, it’s already playoff time in November for the 3-5 San Diego Chargers when the head to Houston and face the 4-3 Texans.  The Chargers can ill afford another loss to a beatable team on the road.

With trips to Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Denver on the docket, San Diego may only be able to afford one more loss in the final 8 games.  The Chargers sure don’t want to use that one loss this week against the Texans.

Hopefully history will repeat itself and the Chargers will rally after a slow start to a season and steamroll through the rest of the season.

Chargers on Offense

Oh Boy, this could be interesting.  As this is being written, Antonio Gates’ status for the game is uncertain because of multiple injuries.  Going into the season, Gates, Malcom Floyd, Legedu Naanee, Vincent Jackson and Buster Davis were the top five receiving threat for the Chargers.  It is appearing more likely that none of the five will be on the field Sunday.

Chris JohnsonAt 2-5, all is not yet lost for the San Diego Chargers this season.  But, they must right the ship against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.  Another loss against a beatable team at home could have all San Diego fans looking for other things to do on Sundays.

The Chargers have lost three straight games, the last two by a combined six points.  Minor tweaks, adjustments and players getting healthy could turn things around quickly and leave Charger fans with some hope.  At the same time, the San Diego football follies that have showed up on a weekly basis need to immediately disappear.

Tennessee is coming in, riding a three game winning streak.  They have overcome some injuries of their own, primarily at the quarterback position, and rest in first place in the AFC South.

The Titans are no slouches, they have several offensive weapons and a pretty stout defense and that will not make it easy for the Chargers to get on track to another playoff appearance.

History is on San Diego’s side.  The Chargers have won seven straight and Tennessee head coach Jeff Fisher is 0-6 against San Diego.  The Titans franchise has not beaten the Chargers since 1992, when they were the Houston Oilers.

BBFor a team desperate for a win, things do not appear to be lining up well for the San Diego Chargers.  Injuries are devastating San Diego right now and the always tough New England Patriots are rolling into town with a very impressive 4-1 record.

It is very possible the Chargers will be without Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates, Legedu Naanee when they take the field on Saturday.  That’s significant firepower missing, especially when facing the Patriots, who can put quite a few points on the board.

It’s pretty much a guarantee that the Patriots will come in prepared for everything the Chargers throw at them.  Head coach Bill Belichick has shown he is willing to put in all the time, effort, and go the extra mile (not always within the rules) to have his team ready to play.

SJaxWith all the wild goings on this week at Chargers Park, let’s not forget there is a game this Sunday. Sure, the game is against the lowly St Louis Rams, but with San Diego’s track record on the road this year, no win is guaranteed.

Yet again, for the fourth consecutive season, the Chargers have started the season 2-3. And yet again, they are forced to dig themselves out of a hole to win the AFC West. This week’s opponent is a good team to get the season turned around.
Though San Diego is coming off a disappointing loss against the Raiders, the Rams are trying to rebound from a 44-6 drubbing hands at the hands of the Detroit Lions. If you are getting smoked by the Lions, you are not a good team.
No excuses, the Chargers must win this game! Add a comment

black_holeOkay, the 2010 San Diego Chargers have shown they can not only win at home, but win big at now.  Now, it’s time for them to show they can do it on the road.  Like their previous two road games (both losses), they face a very beatable team.  This week, the Chargers will make the trip up to Oakland to face the 1-3 Raiders.

Do you remember where you were on September 28th, 2003?  Me neither.  Drew Brees was catching touchdown passes from Ladanian Tomlinson for the Chargers and Jerry Rice had 100 yards receiving for the Raiders.  That was the last time the Raiders defeated San Diego.

That is a long time ago.

The Chargers have won 13 straight against the Raiders.  Many on the roster have no idea what the defeat tastes like at the hands of the silver and black.  With the wide gap in talent, it may be a long time before the Raiders can end the streak.

Fumbles and penalties on the road are the great equalizer of talent.  San Diego can not make the same mistakes that have occurred at Kansas City and at Seattle.  If those mistakes do creep up again, they will be in a dog fight with a team they should easily handle.
