Chargers 17  Rams 20

For the 4th year in a row, the Chargers started the year 2-3, looking for the all important win to get back at .500. The Chargers had anything but an easy time getting things going on both sides of the ball, being shut down offensively.

The San Diego Chargers came out with run on there mind, the first series that is. Not soon after the Chargers fell behind, and evidently staying behind, giving up on the run very early in the game, (Turner-ball?) With the game at half in favor of the Rams at 17-0. The Chargers came out in the second half with more energy and more heart. Fighting from behind seems to be the Chargers mantra thus far in the season. Down 10 in the 4th, Keading had a chance to pull the Chargers within 7, but failed to get the ball between the uprights. Rivers would eventually get the ball into the end zone to "Buster"Davis. Giving us the final score 17-20.

Philip Rivers (22/37 249 1td 1int) had absolutely no help in any aspect of the offence today! Numerous dropped balls and horrible blocking up front getting sacked 9 times.

Running Backs- Ryan Mathews(12/64) started the game with great hard runs, only to see very little action as well fell behind early in the game. Mike Tolbert had the only rushing TD in the game. Tolbert finished the day with 3 carries for 3 yards.

Wide Receivers- Patrick Crayton had his coming out party as a Charger (6/117). Malcom Floyd (2/15) had a hard time getting open throughout the entire game. "Buster" Davis' offensive blunders continued as he had balls dropped throughout the game and in key situations, though he caught the only River td pass. he finished the game with 3 receptions for 33 yards.

O-Line - Welcomed Marcus McNiell back to the line up. though he had absolutely no impact as the Chargers front line had a meltdown of a day, allowing Rivers to get sacked 9 times, and just as many hits.

Defense

D-Line - Garay  had 6 tackles and 1 sack. Castillo and Johnson both finished with 3 tackles apiece, with Castillo registering half a sack. Thomas, Barnes and Cesaire all had 2 tackles on the day with Cesar Getting his half a sack he shared with Garay. The front 3 had a hard time stopping the run, allowing 109 yards on the ground.

Linebackers - Cooper had his usual day with 6 tackles. Burnett and Applewhite both finished with 3 takles and Philips had a quiet day with 2. The group had a hard time covering the short and under routes as Bradford seemed to have his way with our backers in the passing game.

Secondary - Weddle has his usual team high tackles with 12. Jammer, 1 tackle, didn't see much action as Bradford had his sights set on picking on Cason. Cason had by far his worst day as a Charger. Cason had 4 tackles to his credit, but the Rams receiver had no problem finding space against him. Oliver had his 6 tackles taking over for the suspended Gregory.

  • Norv Turner: Antonio Gates is back to where we want him
It has been a rough couple of years for Chargers tight end Antonio Gates. He missed six games in 2010 and three games, along with parts of others, last year because of a foot injury. He’s still been productive — 17 touchdown catches — but his presence in the lineup has been missed for the…
  • Junior Seau’s restaurant closes
The San Diego restaurant that Junior Seau owned is going out of business. Trustees of Seau’s estate announced the decision to close Seau’s The Restaurant on Wednesday, two weeks after Seau committed suicide. The trustees said the restaurant’s ability to be profitable without Seau’s leadership was in question. Seau’s described itself as the largest sports…
  • Bike stolen from Seau’s home recovered
Last night, a disturbing report emerged that a burglary occurred at linebacker Junior Seau’s home only five days after he died there.  The good news, if there is any, is that police have recovered the $500 bike stolen from the garage. The bicycle, which belongs to a friend of Seau’s, was found in the possession…
  • Junior Seau’s home burglarized
Here’s a sad and pathetic footnote to the death of linebacker Junior Seau.  His house in Oceanside, California was burglarized last week, according to the North County Times. Police say that, on May 7, someone used the dog door to force entry through the garage door, rummaged through cabinets in the garage, and stole a…
  • The Chargers have signed all their draft picks
Cross another team off the list. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers have reached agreement on a four-year contract with strong safety Brandon Taylor. That makes them the fifth team in the league to sign all of their draft picks. The Chargers targeted Taylor and traded up with the Dolphins…
