Chargers sign Teal

The San Diego Chargers have signed strong safety Quinton Teal to a two-year contract today.

The 6-0, 205-pound Teal is in his fourth NFL season, having spent the 2007-09 seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He played in all 16 games for the Panthers in ’09, starting the first three, recording 15 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense and eight tackles on special teams. Teal played in 44 games over three years with the Panthers, primarily on special teams, and recorded 26 tackles on those units.

Teal was a two-time first-team All-Big South choice at Coastal Carolina coming out of Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville, South Carolina.

He will wear No. 36 for the Chargers.

  • Norv Turner: Antonio Gates is back to where we want him
It has been a rough couple of years for Chargers tight end Antonio Gates. He missed six games in 2010 and three games, along with parts of others, last year because of a foot injury. He’s still been productive — 17 touchdown catches — but his presence in the lineup has been missed for the…
  • Junior Seau’s restaurant closes
The San Diego restaurant that Junior Seau owned is going out of business. Trustees of Seau’s estate announced the decision to close Seau’s The Restaurant on Wednesday, two weeks after Seau committed suicide. The trustees said the restaurant’s ability to be profitable without Seau’s leadership was in question. Seau’s described itself as the largest sports…
  • Bike stolen from Seau’s home recovered
Last night, a disturbing report emerged that a burglary occurred at linebacker Junior Seau’s home only five days after he died there.  The good news, if there is any, is that police have recovered the $500 bike stolen from the garage. The bicycle, which belongs to a friend of Seau’s, was found in the possession…
  • Junior Seau’s home burglarized
Here’s a sad and pathetic footnote to the death of linebacker Junior Seau.  His house in Oceanside, California was burglarized last week, according to the North County Times. Police say that, on May 7, someone used the dog door to force entry through the garage door, rummaged through cabinets in the garage, and stole a…
  • The Chargers have signed all their draft picks
Cross another team off the list. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers have reached agreement on a four-year contract with strong safety Brandon Taylor. That makes them the fifth team in the league to sign all of their draft picks. The Chargers targeted Taylor and traded up with the Dolphins…
